Teens

Working with teens

The teen years can be some of the most challenging – both for the teen and for their parent(s). Developmentally, teens are undergoing rapid physiological, emotional, and social changes. They’re navigating friendships, academic pressures, identity formation, and often struggling to balance the expectations of adults (parents, teachers, coaches) with a deep desire for independence.

To achieve their developmental goals and build a solid sense of self, many teens – and their families – benefit from external support.

When working with teens and their families, I focus on building trust and open communication. I create an environment that meets each teen where they are, and help them explore who they are and what they want to become, all within a safe and respectful space.

Whether or not parents are involved in the therapy process is assessed on a case-by-case basis, based on what’s most supportive for the teen and the family dynamic.
